Meet Thuy Luong (Phoebe), the Founder of Phoebe & Besties
Thuy Luong (Phoebe)
Founder
After graduating from the University of Foreign Language Studies in 2017, Phoebe was supposed to become an English teacher at a high school or English center in her hometown, a rural village near Hoi An.
To improve her English, she joined a free tour program for foreigners around Da Nang City. Since then, her life has changed in ways she never imagined. Just one word: AMAZING!
Working as a tour guide has given her opportunities to get to know and make friends with many incredible people around the world.
From a shy girl, she discovered she had a knack for listening and sharing stories. She took her foreign friends to her favorite coffee spot in town shared her university life with them taught them Vietnamese, and introduced them to authentic local foods.
After working as a local guide in Hoi An for a while, Phoebe took a step further into a larger tour business. She is thrilled to be a Chief Experience Officer (tour leader) for the reputable company G Adventures.
This move has opened a new chapter in her life. She now gets to travel around Vietnam, meet incredible travelers from all continents, help more locals along the way, and expand her work zone to include Cambodia and Thailand.
These experiences have enriched her skills in guiding and caring for groups, problem-solving, communication, teamwork with locals, and administrative tasks when crossing borders.

Very enjoyable!
A very pleasant morning wandering through the old town with Thuy (Phoebe). I was shown various locations, dwellings, and local produce including a well that has been used by local people since the 10th century. I also had the opportunity to make and eat a ‘white rose dumpling’ although it ended up looking like a scrunched-up tissue haha.
Phoebe’s English is very good. At each location she was able to explain the history in a way that was easy to understand, and she was able to answer all the questions I had.
I enjoyed this tour a lot!

Fantastic tour with Thuy
Even though the monsoon rain was pelting down and we were ankle-deep in water at times, we had a fantastic morning with Thuy seeing some of the sights in Hoi An. We saw a side of Hoi An we would not have experienced otherwise: back streets of the old town, an historic home, a family business making the best dumplings ever (white rose), market food stalls and temples. Thuy is a former teacher, she has great patience and a kind gentle manner. She is very knowledgeable and interesting, and helped us feel comfortable in Hoi An. Can highly recommend this tour. The rain was pretty crazy but a unique experience!

Wonderful Hoi An Tour with Thuy Luong
We thought it would be best to go with a local guide while in Vietnam, as we were coming off a cruise ship (Sapphire Princess) and time was short with only a one day stopover….we were so pleased to be met by Thuy Luong. She was waiting patiently in the hot sun holding a sign with my name so we knew exactly who she was. Thuy is the sweetest person you would ever meet. She asked us what we wanted to see or experience in Hoi An and designed the tour to meet our needs exactly….including last minutes requests. When I noticed the arm protectors that she was wearing and mentioned that I liked them, she asked the driver to stop at a local vendor so that I could pick up a pair (and some masks), and she negotiated an excellent price in the local language. I couldn’t be happier. We were a group of 4, and we fit comfortably in a newish Toyota Fortuner (mid-sized SUV). With the driver and Thuy, we had lots of room for all 6 of us, plus a cooler of water to keep us hydrated. Thuy was very kind, polite and extremely well informed about her country. It felt like we were with a friend instead of a guide.
The tour itself was a good mix of sites, food, and culture. After a very long day, Thuy rode all the way back with us to our cruise ship port in Chan May. i don’t [think] she got back to her home in Danang until close to midnight but she was so accommodating the entire time.
I would highly recommend Thuy!
